HISTORY
BAUER transmitters were produced from 1955 until 1993. The original "BAUER" transmitter were made by Fritz Bauer at locations in Missouri and California. No shortwave (HF) transmitters were made by Fritz Bauer -- only standard band AM.

Bauer Bauer Electronics Corporation was formed in 1959 by Fritz Bauer, Paul Gregg, Robert Hammett And Edward Edison. This company (and the name changes that followed) manufactured AM transmitters (standard band), AM transmitters (shortwave), FM transmitters and a variety of other products that found use in radio stations. The shortwave transmitters were modifications of the standard band model with the necessary changes required in the RF section for the higher frequency operation. For the most part they operated in the area of 4 to 10 MHz -- and were single frequency transmitters (not continuously tuneable).

Bauer Electronics Corporation was located at 1661 Industrial Road, San Carlos, California. It should be noted that Bauer was located only a mile from the Eimac plant. Several Eimac engineers participated in the design of Bauer transmitters which explains why several new Eimac tube designs first appeared in Bauer transmitters -- 4CX5000A, 5CX1500A, 4CX3500A, 3-400A and the 4-500A for example.

In 1967 Bauer became a part of Granger Associates located in Stanford Industrial Park in Palo Alto, California. No shortwave transmitters were constructed during this period.

Sparta In 1970 the Bauer transmitter division was purchased by the Cetec Corporation and moved to Sacramento, California and merged with the Sparta Electronic Corporation, a manufacturer of audio products for the broadcast industry. Transmitters manufactured during this period were know as Sparta-Bauer. The company was located at 5851 Florin Perkins Road in Sacramento, Ca. Shortwave transmitters were made during this period.

Elcom In 1980 Paul Gregg and a group of Mexican broadcasters purchased the Bauer transmitter division from Cetec. The company was known as Elcom Bauer. Elcom came from the corporate name (Elcom Specialty Products, Inc.). Shortwave transmitters were made by Elcom Bauer. The company was located at 6199 Warehouse Way, Sacramento, Ca. The move to El Paso, Texas was made in July of 1994.
